Dr. Debmalya Sanyal is a highly accomplished and respected medical professional in the field of endocrinology. He currently holds the position of Professor at the Department of Endocrinology at KPC Medical College, Kolkata, India. Additionally, he serves as a Conjoint Professor at the School of Medicine & Public Health, University of Newcastle, Australia. Dr. Sanyal's areas of expertise and interest include diabetes and transplant, diabetes and pregnancy (including IVF pregnancy), pharmacotherapy in diabetes, diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), as well as thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary diseases.

Dr. Sanyal's academic journey began with an MBBS degree with honors from Calcutta University in 1997. He further pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine (DTM&H) from the School of Tropical Medicine, Calcutta University. He obtained his MD in Internal Medicine from Utkal University, followed by a DM in Endocrinology from West Bengal University of Health Sciences. He also holds various prestigious qualifications, such as MRCP, FRCP, Specialty Certificate in Endocrinology & Diabetes (SCE) from the Royal College of Physicians (UK), and FACE (Fellow, American College of Endocrinology).

With a rich academic background, Dr. Sanyal actively contributes to medical education. He serves as a faculty member for the Integrated Diabetes & Endocrine Certificate Course at the University of Newcastle, Australia, and KPC Medical College, Kolkata. He has been instrumental in conceptualizing and developing the curriculum for this course, conducting examinations, and regularly delivering theory classes on endocrinology and diabetes. His dedication to education is further highlighted by his involvement as a national faculty member in diabetes and endocrine courses conducted by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and the Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI).

In addition to his academic commitments, Dr. Sanyal is deeply involved in clinical practice and research. He has an extensive publication record, with more than 84 publications in national and international journals. He actively participates in national and international endocrine conferences, presenting his research papers and staying at the forefront of the field. His research interests encompass various aspects of diabetes, including type 1 and type 2 diabetes, post-transplant diabetes mellitus, primary hyperaldosteronism, transgender endocrinology, thyroid disorders, diabetes and chronic kidney disease, fatty liver, GLP-1 therapy, insulin and renal impairment, pregnancy in diabetes.

Dr. Sanyal's contributions extend beyond research and clinical practice. He has served in leadership roles and as a member of various medical societies and committees, including the Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), the West Bengal Chapter, the Diabetic Association of India (WB Chapter), and the Endocrine Society of Bengal. He has received recognition and awards for his outstanding contributions, including the Indian Medical Association Dr. Deepak Banerjee Award for the best paper published in the Journal of Indian Medical Association.

With his expertise, dedication, and continuous pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Debmalya Sanyal significantly contributes to the advancement of endocrinology and the improvement of patient care.
